How does Peelo work?
Beeswax, resin, jojoba and coconut oil are all natural preservatives. They keep your food fresh without letting it go bad - thanks to cotton and the combination of 100% natural materials, the wraps are breathable and don't lock in excess moisture. Peelo can take on any shape, just use the warmth of your hands and it will adapt to any shape of food, a bowl or a container.
How long will the wrap last?
With proper care, the wrap can last you up to 2 years. Over time, the wrap might start losing its stickiness, but it will still keep your food fresh.
Can food dye Peelo?
Some crops like beetroots, strawberries but also sauces can dye the wrap and that is why Peelo will get a colored tint overtime. However, if you want to keep it as clean as possible, clean it right after using it, but only in cold or lukewarm water, or put foods with a strong pigment into a bowl and cover that. The colouring however, doesn't affect the properties of the wraps.
Which foods should I avoid?
Be cautious especially with raw meat - if you need to wrap it, put it into a bowl and cover that with the beeswax wrap. Apart from that, Peelo can have trouble with fruit that has higher acidity, like pineapple.
Does Peelo change characteristics in different temperatures?
Definitely yes! Natural ingredients naturally adapt to their surroundings. Peelo will feel different depending on if you just toook it out of the drawer or the fridge. One thing to be careful about - beeswax melts at a temperature of 60 degrees Celsius and even though the temperatures at home will never get this high, strong source of heat like direct sunlight, microwave or the dishwasher can also harm it. :)
Why does my wrap have an uneven surface or color?
Peelo is hand-made from only natural ingredients and that is the answer to both questions. The color of the beeswax and resin can differ due to various factors and on top of that, resin contains natural dirt, which however is not harmful in any way. We thoroughly filter our wax mixture, before we use it to wrap the cotton fabric, however it is possible that a piece of nature has made it to your specific wrap. Don't be scared to use your wrap though, it's only proof that they really are all natural.
What should I do with the wrap if it's not sticky anymore?
Overtime, the sticky wax layer will wear out and frequent washing will also change its characteristics. If you see that wax has started to break a little bit, definitely do not throw away your Peelo! You can easily return it to its original shape at home.
You only have to preheat your oven to 65°C, line your baking tray with parchment paper, so it does not get dirty and place Peelo on top. Let it sit in the oven for 5 to 10 minutes, until the wax layer melts. If you feel like you need to add a new layer of wax, you can buy our Peelo Fix wax block, grind it and sprinkle it over the wrap before putting it in the oven. Then take Peelo out, grab it by two corners wave it in the air. After a few seconds it will be like new.
What should I do with the beeswax wrap when it's at the end of its lifecycle?
When Peelo is definitely at the end of its lifeycycle, you can cut it into small pieces and throw it into the compost or cut it into longer stripes and use it as a firestarter in a fireplace or at a grill party.
